Innovation & Advanced X-ray physics for imaging devices in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology

A practical challenge to be solved: which physical principle can be turned into clinical reality, and when?

Importance and impact of the training module: Selected scientific papers introduce the use of new X-ray characteristics for medical applications. Some of these devices aim to operate at very low doses. Other applications aim for other parameters to be retrieved from an exposure, such as tissue characterization based upon dual energy absorption and phase contrast. Some of these devices were until recently only available in large physics institutions (like synchrotron facilities), but are now available as smaller prototype. Translation of these devices into the clinic will be a challenge for the MPE in the near future.
